Description
When I did a report in my japanese class on origami, I decided to make 1000 Cranes. For those who don't know the legend, if you fold 100 paper cranes you are supposed to be granted the gift of a long life.
It became more well known when Sadako Sasaki, a little girl with leukemia from the bombing of hiroshima, tried to make 1000 in hopes that her life would be longer.
She died after making only 644. Her classmates and friends folded the rest of the 1000 in her honor.
I chose to make mine out of starburst wrappers. I strung them with crystal beads between each crane in a rainbow pattern. There are 100 cranes per strand.
As of 5/20/08 - 2 strands complete
